Introduction to Initial Insights

Welcome to the Initial Insights phase!

This is the first step in developing a focused strategy for communities in your region, aimed at increasing demand for immunization! This step, called “Initial Insights,” is crucial—make sure to complete it before moving on. The work you do here will shape the rest of the process.

Given your expertise, you will be critical in leading and planning the process, starting with this step!

Purpose

As you know, a strategy to improve demand for immunization should be built on a strong foundation. This first step in the DSB process is critical to collect the key information and organise resources needed to create a strong, evidence-based strategy.

During this phase, you will prioritise the key locations, communities, and objective of the strategy. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Achieve

By the end of this step, you will:

  • Build a small team to lead and support your strategy.
  • Set a clear immunization goal.
  • Understand the strategies and data already available in your area.
  • Identify the priority communities and locations the strategy will focus on.
  • Plan for funding and resources.
  • Create a plan for organising workshops to build the strategy.

How it works

Initial Insights consists of five modules:

  1. Module A: Build a Team
  2. Module B: Gather Data
  3. Module C: Plan & Invite
  4. Module D: Manage Finances
  5. Module E: Organise Logistics
  6. Conclusion
Roleplay

👥 Who should be involved

During Initial Insights, you’ll mostly work with a small core team or individually, depending on the task. In Module A, you’ll assign roles and responsibilities for your core team. Once your team is ready, it’s best to continue working with them for the rest of Initial Insights.

🗃️ Tools Needed

Online Tools:

  • The Facilitator’s Guide: This is what you are reading right now! This guide will help you prepare for each step and module in the DSB. You’ll also use it before, during, and after facilitation to remind you of the activity steps and what comes next.
  • DSB Kick off Presentation: An online presentation in Module A of Initial Insights to help you introduce the DSB to key decision-makers.
  • Data Presentation (OR Data Worksheet): An online presentation in Module B of Initial Insights where you will summarise key data collected, and document decisions on the priority locations and communities for the strategy. If you do not wish to use the presentation, you can use the Data Worksheet instead to summarise key decisions.
  • Online Templates: To help with planning, we have provided some optional templates to help coordinate planning (e.g. budget and timeline templates).

Printed Tools

(Note: Make sure you print all Initial Insights materials according to the printing guidelines.)

Initial Insights Cards: Modules A, B, and E include cards that you will use to brainstorm and complete activities. These can either be used online by sharing your screen on a call, or as printed cards if you wish to meet in person to plan Initial Insights.
