The Pomodoro Technique

This technique was invented in the early 1990s by developer, entrepreneur, and author Francesco Cirillo. The system was named “Pomodoro” after the tomato-shaped timer he used to track his work as a university student.

Follow these steps to boost your productivity and concentration:

  • Make a to-do list and bring a timer/stopwatch.
  • Set your timer for 25 minutes, and focus on a single task until the timer rings.
  • When your timer rings, mark off one pomodoro and record what you completed.
  • Then go for a five-minute break.
  • After four pomodoros, take a longer, more restorative 15-30 minute break.
